Chicago Bar Association Interview with George Anastaplo

George Anastaplo, Constitutional and Lincoln scholar, World War II veteran and professor of law discusses his book “Reflections on Life, Death and the Constitution,” and the events leading up to his controversial Illinois bar admission case and ultimate pro se argument before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1961. In a vibrant dissent in the case, Justice Hugo L. Black wrote, “We must not be afraid to be free.”
