Recollections, Christmas 2008

The menu for the Christmas Party in 1946 on the United States Army Air Corps base at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

The Dhahran base was opened by the United States Army Air Corps in 1945 (that is, during the Second World War) and continued under Air Corps control to 1962. I do not know whether the United States Air Force used it during the 1990-1991 Gulf War or thereafter.

Dhahran was my last air base abroad (after earlier overseas assignments to Guam, Paris, and Cairo) before I transferred to an Inactive status as an Air Corps Reserve Officer in February 1947. In the Fall of 1947 I began my studies at the University of Chicago. I have, since 1946-1947, been back to the Middle East, but not to Dharan.
